Summary

Every month, a letter。 That's what Lauren decides to leave her husband when she finds out she's dying。 Each month, she gives Josh a letter containing a task to help him face this first year without her, leading him on a heartrending, beautiful, often humorous journey to find happiness again in this new novel from the New York Times bestselling author Kristan Higgins。

Joshua and Lauren are the perfect couple。 Newly married, they're wildly in love, each on a successful and rewarding career path。 Then Lauren is diagnosed with a terminal illness。

As Lauren's disease progresses, Joshua struggles to make the most of the time he has left with his wife and to come to terms with his future--a future without the only woman he's ever loved。 He's so consumed with finding a way to avoid the inevitable ending that he never imagines his life after Lauren。

But Lauren has a plan to keep her husband moving forward。 A plan hidden in the letters she leaves him。 In those letters, one for every month in the year after her death, Lauren leads Joshua on a journey through pain, anger, and denial。 It's a journey that will take Joshua from his attempt at a dinner party for family and friends to getting rid of their bed。。。from a visit with a psychic medium to a kiss with a woman who isn't Lauren。 As his grief makes room for laughter and new relationships, Joshua learns Lauren's most valuable lesson: The path to happiness doesn't follow a straight line。

Sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, and always uplifting, this novel from New York Times bestselling author Kristan Higgins illuminates how life's greatest joys are often hiding in plain sight。

Biggest tear jerker since Jojo Moyes "You Before Me"。 It was great although in retrospect not the best book to read on an airplane since everyone around me must have thought I was having a break down。 Biggest tear jerker since Jojo Moyes "You Before Me"。 It was great although in retrospect not the best book to read on an airplane since everyone around me must have thought I was having a break down。 。。。more

This is a very good book。 You have two stories in one。 One story is of a husband who has to come to terms with losing his wife, and the other story is the wife telling her story about them。 Josh's story starts at the beginning of his loss。 Lauren's story starts with her death and goes backwards in time to when she knew that Josh was the right man for her。 This book is about how she helps him get through the first year of her death。 You do not want to miss this love story。 This is a very good book。 You have two stories in one。 One story is of a husband who has to come to terms with losing his wife, and the other story is the wife telling her story about them。 Josh's story starts at the beginning of his loss。 Lauren's story starts with her death and goes backwards in time to when she knew that Josh was the right man for her。 This book is about how she helps him get through the first year of her death。 You do not want to miss this love story。 。。。more

Phew! I’m trying to dry up the multitude of tears that I couldn’t control as I finished this book this morning。 Kristan Higgins’s books are so different and I love the way she explores different topics。 This book was no exception。 I loved Joshua Park。 I loved the way we got to know him and Lauren and the way they loved each other, even as she was dying。 I love how Lauren pushed him to expand who he was, even after she was gone。 I loved watching him grow his new life and family even though it was Phew! Higgins has never once disappointed me in all the years I’ve read her。 This book is no different and may be my favorite out of all of them。 Such a wonderful story。 Heart wrenching and warming。 Sad and happy and full of hope and joy。 Josh and Lauren and their love story and partying was simply remarkable。

The perfect storyI was unsure about the plot for this book, but trusted Ms。 Higgins because she writes really great books。 This story was truly perfect。 You were able to pull for everyone, like everyone, and celebrate with everyone。 It felt real。 These are people you know。 And you want their lives to continue, with their hearts always full of love for their sister, daughter, wife, aunt, and friend, in the way life does carry on, even when you've lost someone so huge to the story of your life。 The perfect storyI was unsure about the plot for this book, but trusted Ms。 Higgins because she writes really great books。 This story was truly perfect。 You were able to pull for everyone, like everyone, and celebrate with everyone。 It felt real。 These are people you know。 And you want their lives to continue, with their hearts always full of love for their sister, daughter, wife, aunt, and friend, in the way life does carry on, even when you've lost someone so huge to the story of your life。 。。。more

I thought this book was really well done, but man, it was a tearjerker。 I really felt like I had to slog my way through it sometimes。 I only picked it up because I like the author, not knowing what it was about, and it was not quite the easy summer read I was expecting。

OMG the best book I have read in many years。You have to read it。

Sorry, couldn’t even finish it - too boring。 I usually love her books but this was such a downer。 I read for relaxation and this topic was just too gloomy for me。

I have read 4 other Kristen Higgins books and loved them all。 This one not so much。 Wallowing wallowing wallowing。 The relationship between Joshua and Lauren was just “too too perfect” ; unrealistic, sappy, not believable。 I, like most, have experienced my share of death and grief and missed loved ones to the depth of my soul。 But not in the manner of this novel。 Ugh。

Yep those are in there to。 This book is a beautiful story about Lauren and Joshua。 We learn to love them both right at the beginning。 We also learn of the tragedy that has struck this young married couple。 Lauren has a terminal illness called IPF。 Throughout this book you can't help but have hope, and wish for better things for these two and their dear family and friends。 We have hope and I think Kristan helps us to have courage for them all。 What she is able to do is weave the most beautiful love story out of this tragedy。 I can't say enough about the author and her book。 This book was written during the pandemic if I'm not mistaken, and it certainly made her creative juices flow。 Kristan thank you for writing such a beautiful love story for us to read and enjoy over and over again! As for me I am a true fan and follower of this beautiful lady。 I have had the pleasure of meeting her twice in person and getting my books signed by her。 I am happy to say I purchased not only a physical copy of this book, but the audible version as well。 I listened to the audible version and totally enjoyed Xe Sands and Dion Graham narrating。 They were awesome and entertaining。 What can I say, grab a copy of this book and curl up with it for a weekend! You won't be disappointed。 The Best love story Ever!! 。。。more

I absolutely love KH。 I usually love her books, and have read almost all of them, but I guess I wasn't in the right frame of mind to read this one。 Tearjerkers are not my usual type of book。 I read to feel happy and escape reality。 This story was good and very well written, as usual。 I just couldn't get behind all the sadness。 I absolutely love KH。 I usually love her books, and have read almost all of them, but I guess I wasn't in the right frame of mind to read this one。 Tearjerkers are not my usual type of book。 I read to feel happy and escape reality。 This story was good and very well written, as usual。 I just couldn't get behind all the sadness。 。。。more

An absolutely beautiful story。 Sad, sweet and sentimental。 A young widower trying to survive the first year after his wife’s death。 She writes letters to him instructing him on what to do to help him move forward。 I can’t say I loved it because it’s so sad in parts, but I really wanted to know what each month would bring。 It’s very well written。

Kristan Higgins delivers another gem! Laughter, tears, a forever love story。 Very well written with characters I wanted to spend more time with, I hated to see it end。 Thank you, Kristan。

Another wonderful romance story from Kristan Higgins! I listened to the audiobook version (and highly recommend it for this book as it really brings the wife's character to life)。 This story kept me on my toes。。。I was always wanting to know what the next letter would say, or what the husband would do next。 Overall I found the book to be emotionally endearing, and a page-turner。 Another wonderful romance story from Kristan Higgins! Kristan Higgins’ latest novel, Pack Up the Moon, isn’t for everyone。 However, if you’re one of those readers who cried and loved Cecelia Ahern’s 2004 debut, PS, I Love You, as I did, you’ll want to try this book。 I can think of several people, though, who shouldn’t even read the review of this book about a woman who dies, leaving behind a grieving husband。 Higgins' voice, though, is wonderful in this story。Readers meet Lauren Park through her letter to her deceased father, written just eight day Kristan Higgins’ latest novel, Pack Up the Moon, isn’t for everyone。 However, if you’re one of those readers who cried and loved Cecelia Ahern’s 2004 debut, PS, I Love You, as I did, you’ll want to try this book。 I can think of several people, though, who shouldn’t even read the review of this book about a woman who dies, leaving behind a grieving husband。 Higgins' voice, though, is wonderful in this story。Readers meet Lauren Park through her letter to her deceased father, written just eight days before she dies。 She’s not quite twenty-nine, but she’s dying of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, IPF, a disease that will eventually take away her lung capacity。 There’s no cure, although Lauren’s brilliant husband, Joshua, does everything he can to find a cure before he loses the woman who loves and understands him。Lauren knows she’s dying, and wants her life to be filled with joy and laughter。 She also knows that Josh will be lost without her。 Lauren sees Josh as “a wildly successful, gorgeous entrepreneur”。 He holds multiple patents, but he’s also on the autism spectrum。 He has a rough time “peopling” , and lacks social skills。 Lauren is his connection to the social world。 When Lauren dies, Josh doesn’t know how to continue to live or deal with people。Lauren understands that, and she’s written letters to guide Josh。 Her best friend delivers one a month。 He’s told to invite several people over for dinner。 Buy new clothes。 Get rid of their bed and couch。 Each task is difficult for Josh, but he moves ahead a little with each task。 There are several disasters, but also opportunities to find connections with other people。If this was a novel just with letters to Josh moving him along in life, it might become a little too boring。 But, Higgins wisely allows Lauren to tell the story of how she reacted to the news she was dying, and how she coped, ignoring it, until she couldn’t。 She does that by writing to the father who died eight years earlier。 She tells him what’s going on in her life, and her hopes for the GB, the Great Beyond。Pack Up the Moon isn’t just a tragic story of a young couple who don’t make it to their third anniversary。 It’s a story filled with compassion and love, some sass from Lauren, some humor。 Even Josh’s worst moments sometimes lead to laughter and the chance to move forward。 If you’re willing to be moved both to laughter and tears at times, Kristan Higgins’ Pack Up the Moon is a story of how to live life to the fullest, and how to eventually find joy again。 。。。more

Beautifully written Kristan has a wonderful way of telling a sad story, but making it light and hopeful and so full of love。 I loved the letters that Lauren wrote to her dad and the way the chapters switched points of view as well as told the story, not in chronological order。 So well written。 It was heartbreaking and eye opening and it made me think about my own life。 It made me think about what impact have I had on others, not just my love ones。 Beautiful novel Ms。 Higgins。

Wow。 I can’t even remember the last time a book made me cry。 It was so perfect。 It was an “easy” read, but complex in some ways。 You got 2 different perspectives that were just different enough to really see each person’s view but it didn’t take away from the other’s。 Such a good read, so glad I read it。

I feel that way。" Books reveal ourselves to ourselves as we learn about others。There are so many things that bring me back to Kristan's books again and again。 The dialog ("Don't you Shawshank me!"), the faithful dog (shoutout to Pebbles), and her trademark hideously, humiliatingly, hysterically awful date stories。 This one involves a Ponzi scheme and sly reference to I Love Lucy。 Enjoy it when it comes around。 I sure did。 。。。more

I read this book non stop! Kristan is a wonderful writer。 I had the privilege of meeting her at a reading of Good Luck With That。 Her warm, wise and witty voice shine through all her writing, but especially in this book。 You will laugh, cry and miss the characters when you finish the book!

Really like this author, have read all her books, however wasn't expecting the theme of this book to be so serious。 Missed the trademark humour of her previous books。 There were funny moments, but they were overshadowed by death! This book was one I hadn’t expected to be so emotional for me。 Usually romance novels leave me with a happy ending and I pick up another and forget the one before。 This one was different。 It spoke to me on every page and reminded me of a look back at my own life。 It will stay with me and remind me of how each of us might have not only a truly wonderful first love, but also a wonderful second love。
